Literacy and the Science of Reading at the forefront of education and for good reason. Our students’ reading ability is a K-12 concern, but we have options. As we shift away from old mindsets, we must move into embracing not only HOW to teach reading but also HOW to expose our students to knowledge. “The Knowledge Gap” will force educators to self-assess and discuss tangible ideas moving forward. What does closing the knowledge gap look like at different grade levels? What mindset shifts must occur before moving forward? What support and training is required to be successful as a school? Most importantly: how does administration support teachers through Science of Reading so that it does not feel like one more thing?
