School Principal Saint Agnes Academy Dalton, MA, United States
As an immigrant, I have navigated the complexities of adapting to a new culture while maintaining my roots. This journey has been significantly influenced by my experiences with digital learning. The "Roots and Wings" workshop aims to empower educators and learners by sharing strategies on how digital learning can support immigrant students. Immigrants often encounter barriers in education, including language barriers, cultural adjustments, and access to resources. Digital learning platforms can bridge these gaps by providing accessible, flexible, and culturally relevant educational opportunities. Through interactive sessions, group discussions, and personal anecdotes, participants will explore ways to leverage technology to enhance cultural inclusion, language support, and academic success. The workshop will include a mix of presentations, breakout sessions, and hands-on activities. Participants will have the opportunity to share their own experiences, engage in cultural sensitivity training, and explore digital tools that facilitate language learning and cultural adaptation. By the end of this workshop, participants will have a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by immigrant students and practical strategies to support them through digital learning. They will also gain access to a toolkit of digital resources and a network of peers committed to inclusive education. This workshop is designed to foster a more inclusive and supportive educational environment for immigrant students. By leveraging digital learning, we can provide roots of stability and wings of opportunity, enabling these students to thrive in their new environments.
Learning Objectives:
Embarking on such a journey can be challenging, but with the support of a community, it becomes easier.
As educators, it is important to maintain our focus on our main mission while providing support
Learning about a culture is important, but it is easy to fall into the trap of making assumptions.
How can you learn about a culture without doing so?
Fairness and equality are two different concepts. What may seem equal may not always be fair, and what may be fair may not always be equal.
