Abstract Description : How can we engage our online and hybrid students in rich academic discussions authentically, enjoyably, and safely? We all know the high importance of discussion to our students' academic growth. But in the online and hybrid environments we are often limited to asking students to participate in discussion boards -- a format students and teachers alike often find inauthentic at best and painful at worst. My data shows that students respond well to high quality prompts (curiosity & interdisciplinary connections), Grading for Equity practices, and multiple entry points or sub threads that support each student in making a unique contribution.
