Connecting Virtual Students: Engaging through Clubs, Committees, and Competitions

If you selected Cutting-Edge, what innovative ideas, approaches, or methodologies will your session introduce or explore?: New engagement strategies are implemented every year, based on student feedback and requests, and what has worked on a smaller scale at PVS. Many of the strategies, including Esports, Quiz Bowl, and Comic Con, have been research-backed and have demonstrated as impactful as far as student retention, satisfaction, and academic performance.

Abstract Description :

This session will delve into the world of virtual clubs, committees, and competitions, showcasing how a variety of offerings can bring fun, connection, and a sense of belonging to students' online learning experiences. We’ll share how Pearson Virtual Schools has capitalized on a network of schools to promote healthy competition between school teams in Quiz Bowl tournaments, Esports leagues, and even movement challenges. We’ll also discuss hosting a Global, blended Comic Con and how to engage the elementary students through clubs and activities. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from successful examples and collaborate on practical strategies and challenges for creating and managing virtual engagement activities.
