Defining and tracking attendance in a virtual setting is a complex task. Leaders must consider flexibility, accountability, and personalization of learning needs. Over the years, our virtual program has shifted several times to refine what it means to be present and engaged. We have attempted to remove barriers that impede meaningful student engagement. This year, we are piloting a virtual attendance verification system. This system requires parents to log in at least once weekly to verify students' attendance and engagement in coursework. Come hear about some of the considerations that went into planning, incentivizing, and monitoring the effectiveness of this system.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to outline a step-by-step plan for implementing a parent verification system for virtual attendance in their school, including at least three specific strategies or tools they can use to ensure effective verification.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to list the pros and cons of the piloted parent attendance verification system in order to refine the plan presented.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to list barriers to accurate attendance in the virtual environment and brainstorm solutions to address those barriers.
