If you selected Cutting-Edge, what innovative ideas, approaches, or methodologies will your session introduce or explore?: Most use cases of personality bots come at them the wrong way. They think of personality bots as deliverers of information to a student. That is not why they are useful. The inaccuracies that they produce is a feature for the classroom, not a bug.
Abstract Description : Students are using personality bots at home...a lot. Character.ai is one of the most popular platforms for teens, and that is concerning. Educators need to learn how to show students what these character bots really are in a way that will stick.
This session leans on an activity that was accepted into the Harvard AI Pedagogy Project. It will show admins and teachers how to put character bots in front of students in a way that increases their critical thinking and removes the shroud that confuses students about what and who they are talking to. It also provides a fascinating look into how students think, and asks them to engage in a highly metacognitive activity that will allow them to draw their own conclusions about personality bots.
