This session will discuss strategies to increase learner comprehension of text reading in digital spaces and online platforms. Research has indicated that students' understanding of digital text is lower than when they engage with traditional text. As access to, and use of, digital text in schools, for leisure reading, and for literacy assessment continues to expand for students of all ages, educators must support learners with comprehension strategies that support learning with digital texts. This session will provide examples of strategies to support students with reading in digital spaces and expand learning opportunities. This session will extend current research and conversations about teaching and learning in the age of online digital reading, providing new ideas to integrate into our classrooms and support students with comprehension of text for effective reading.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, participants will be able to identify ways in which comprehension in digital literacy spaces differs from comprehension of traditional text.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to identify methods to teach students how to engage with digital texts to increase comprehension and reflect on ways to integrate these methods into their current work.
