Abstract Description : My approach to AI Literacy diverges from the rest of the market. Most AI Literacy providers take a computer science approach or teach prompt engineering. My approach demystifies AI by proving that reading and writing are the core skills needed to use an LLM safely and effectively.
Abstract Description : The conventional approaches to developing AI Literacy -- or safe and effective use of LLMs - are wrong. Most take the approach of breaking down the engines or focusing on the mechanics of an LLM. But, you don't need to know how a car engine works to be a safe and effective driver.
Others focus on prompt engineering, which implies that you can "code" an LLM. That is not the case.
AI Literacy involves reading and writing, first. Beyond that, it is a practice that takes intuition, presence of mind, creativity, and more. This means it is a Humanities skill. This session will walk through a new approach to developing AI Literacy in faculty and students that leverages existing skills and removes the "mechanical" approach that most trainers use.

Learning Objectives:
PWBAT interact with AI systems, primarily LLMs, in safe and responsible ways.
PWBAT build mindsets in themselves and students that are more appropriate for safe and effective use of AI than existing strategies.
